An AI agent is only as good as the instructions it receives. A poorly structured prompt produces agents that respond inconsistently, ignore important rules, or don't use their tools correctly. Rela AI's Prompt Optimizer solves this: it takes the instruction text you have — even if it's basic or disorganized — and transforms it into a professional, structured prompt using Gemini.
There's no need to know what a system prompt is, how tokens work, or what makes a prompt effective. The optimizer applies prompt engineering best practices automatically and returns a result ready to use.
The result isn't generic text. The optimizer understands Rela AI's context and the tools available for each agent type, so the generated instructions are specific and coherent with the system.

How does it work?
The Prompt Optimizer uses Gemini to analyze the agent's current prompt and generate an improved version. The process follows a proven standard structure:
Agent identity: Defines who the agent is, what its name is, which company it works for, and what its main role is. A clear identity makes the agent consistent in its tone and behavior.
Main instructions: The tasks the agent must execute, expressed imperatively and without ambiguity. The optimizer separates instructions by request type so the agent knows exactly what to do in each case.
Rules and restrictions: What the agent should avoid, what information it shouldn't share, and how to handle edge cases. Well-defined rules prevent undesired behaviors.
Available tools: Description of when and how to use each configured tool (collection search, asset queries, task creation, etc.). An agent that knows when to use its tools is significantly more useful.
Full vs. section optimization: You can optimize the entire prompt with one click, or select a specific section to improve it without affecting the rest. This is useful when the base prompt is already good but a specific section needs adjustment.
Using the Dashboard
The Prompt Optimizer is integrated directly into the configuration screen of each agent.
Accessing the optimizer: Navigate to Agents > [agent name] > Edit. In the agent's prompt field, you'll find the "Optimize with AI" button in the upper right corner of the editor.
Full optimization: Click "Optimize with AI" to have the system analyze the current prompt and generate a complete improved version. The result appears in a side panel so you can compare before applying.
Section optimization: Select the text of a specific section of the prompt and click "Optimize selection." The system improves only that part and returns the result for review.
Review and apply: Before saving, you can manually edit the optimizer's result. When satisfied, click "Apply" to replace the current prompt with the optimized version.
Version history: The system saves previous versions of the prompt in case you need to revert to an earlier version.
