Setup Wizard
The wizard guides the first steps in Rela AI in 7 stages: from registering the organization and equipment to configuring the first AI agent and the first maintenance plan.
Setup Wizard
When a new plant starts using Rela AI, the setup wizard guides it step by step so everything is ready as quickly as possible. Instead of starting with a blank screen and not knowing where to begin, the wizard asks the right questions in the right order — and automatically applies intelligent configurations based on the industry type.
What is it for?
Setting up the platform correctly from the start avoids rework later. The wizard guarantees that base elements are configured in the correct order: first the organization, then the locations, then the assets — because assets need to be in a location, and locations need to be in an organization.
The wizard allows you to:
- Configure the platform from scratch in a single guided session
- Apply a preset with specific configurations for the industry type
- Register critical equipment with their locations in the plant hierarchy
- Invite the team of technicians and supervisors with their corresponding roles
- Create the first AI agent and the first preventive maintenance plan
How does it work?
The wizard has 7 stages. The first 3 are mandatory — without them, there is no plant in the system. Stages 4 through 7 are optional and can be completed later if you prefer to start gradually.
Progress is saved automatically. If the browser is closed halfway through, you can resume exactly where you left off.
How to use it?
The 7 wizard steps
| Step | What it configures | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Organization | Company name, industry sector, time zone, logo | Yes |
| 2. Locations | Plants, areas, production lines, locations | Yes |
| 3. Assets | Register equipment and assign to locations | Yes |
| 4. Team | Invite technicians, supervisors, and coordinators with their roles | No |
| 5. Agents | Configure the first AI agent (WhatsApp, email, or machine) | No |
| 6. Maintenance | Create the first preventive maintenance plan | No |
| 7. Integrations | Connect external systems (ERP, CMMS, sensors, PLCs) | No |
Choose the industry sector (Step 1)
When selecting the industry sector, the system automatically applies an initial adapted configuration:
| Sector | What it pre-configures automatically |
|---|---|
| Manufacturing | Asset types: CNC, press, industrial robot. Metrics: OEE, production cycles |
| Food & Beverage | Hygiene checkpoints, temperature records, HACCP templates |
| Energy | Turbine and transformer monitoring, power and efficiency metrics |
| Mining | Heavy assets, vibration and wear monitoring, 24/7 shift configuration |
| Logistics | Fleet management, mileage-based maintenance, GPS tracking |
| Buildings | HVAC, elevators, lighting, calendar-based maintenance |
Pre-configurations are starting point templates — everything can be modified after the wizard.
Register locations (Step 2)
Locations are the plant's physical hierarchy. They are configured from most general to most specific:
Example hierarchy for a manufacturing plant:
- Plant: Monterrey Plant
- Area: Production
- Line: Line 1 — Assembly
- Line: Line 2 — Packaging
- Area: Auxiliary Services
- Location: Compressor Room
- Area: Production
Registering locations correctly from the start allows filtering assets and tasks by area, and enables the nearest personnel location function.
Register assets (Step 3)
For each critical piece of plant equipment, register:
- Descriptive name and unique code (e.g., Compressor C-01)
- Equipment type
- Manufacturer and model
- The location where it is physically installed
- Criticality level (high, medium, low)
You can register critical assets now and add the rest later — it is not necessary to register all equipment at this stage.
Track wizard progress
The wizard shows the status of each step with visual indicators:
- Empty circle: pending step
- Half circle: step in progress
- Filled green circle: step completed
- Circle with diagonal line: step skipped
A progress bar at the top of the dashboard shows overall progress until the mandatory steps are completed.
Resume or reset the wizard
The wizard can be resumed from Settings > Wizard at any time. If you advanced to optional steps and left them incomplete, you can complete them from any module without returning to the wizard.
Administrators can reset the wizard from the same section — useful for reviewing the configuration or training new administrators. Resetting the wizard does not delete any data that has already been registered.
Key benefits
- Step-by-step guided configuration that guarantees the correct order of elements
- Industry-specific presets that reduce initial setup time
- Progress saved automatically — can be paused and resumed without losing work
- The 3 mandatory steps are enough to begin operating
- Optional steps can be completed gradually as the team gets familiar with the platform
- Automatic detection of existing configuration — if assets are already registered, they are marked as complete
Common use cases
Scenario 1: Go live in a single day The maintenance coordinator at a beverage plant dedicates the morning of the first day to completing the wizard. In step 1 they select "Food & Beverage" — the system pre-configures asset types and HACCP templates automatically. In step 2 they register 3 areas and 8 locations. In step 3 they register the 24 critical pieces of equipment. By noon, the base structure is ready. In the afternoon they complete the optional steps: invite 5 technicians (step 4) and create 3 main preventive plans (step 6). By end of day, the system is operational.
Scenario 2: Gradual setup for a non-technical team The plant manager at a manufacturing company starts the wizard but does not want to do everything at once. They complete steps 1, 2, and 3 (mandatory) and click "Finish." They delegate the optional steps: the IT manager connects the integrations (step 7), supervisors configure their agents (step 5), and the maintenance coordinator creates the plans (step 6) — each at their own convenience.
Scenario 3: Training a new plant in a multi-site company The company has 6 plants and a new plant has just joined Rela AI. The corporate administrator uses the wizard to configure the new plant in 2 hours. They select the same sector as the other plants, register the location hierarchy, and register 40 critical assets. For agents and plans, they import templates that already work in other plants and adapt them to the new one. The process is fast because the company already has experience with the platform.
