FSSC 22000 v6 — what changes and how Rela AI helps
FSSC 22000 v6 is mandatory from April 2025. It covers ISO 22000 + sector PRPs + new requirements on culture, food loss and communication. How Rela AI covers each.
FSSC 22000 v6 — published May 2023, mandatory from April 2025. If your plant supplies multinationals, this is the standard your customer expects. v6 introduces new requirements where real-time monitoring is a direct advantage.
What is FSSC 22000 v6?
FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification) is one of the most adopted GFSI schemes globally — over 27,000 certified sites. Version 6 was published in May 2023 and is mandatory for all audits from April 2025.
Structure:
- ISO 22000 (management system)
- Sector-specific PRPs (Pre-Requisite Programs per ISO/TS 22002-1, 22002-4, etc.)
- FSSC Additional Requirements (the points that distinguish FSSC vs ISO alone)
New requirements in v6 vs v5
The changes where Rela AI delivers direct advantage:
1. Food safety culture (clause 2.5.1)
Same direction as BRCGS Issue 9. v6 formalizes it: culture must be evidenced, not just stated. Rela AI: every operator sees HACCP deviations in real time on WhatsApp in their language. Culture is built in the moment, not at the monthly meeting.
2. Food loss & waste (clause 2.5.5)
v6 requires a documented plan to reduce food waste, aligned with UN SDG 12.3. Rela AI: real-time OEE identifies scrap per shift, line, and recipe. Automatic data to build the baseline and measure progress.
3. Communication (clause 2.5.6)
Documented internal and external communication — incidents, recall, communication with authorities. Rela AI: each HACCP incident generates an auditable timeline (timestamp, action, decision, signature). If there is a recall, lot traceability is already in place.
4. Quality and food safety management (clause 2.5.7)
v6 explicitly separates food safety from food quality, requiring integrated management. Rela AI: the Plant OS asset graph connects HACCP CCPs, quality parameters (SPC) and equipment maintenance in a single structure.
5. Equipment management (PRP)
Reinforced focus on equipment maintenance as PRP. Rela AI: preventive + predictive maintenance logged per asset, linked to the safety plan.
ISO 22000 clauses Rela AI covers
| ISO 22000:2018 clause | Topic | How Rela AI contributes |
|---|---|---|
| 8.2 | PRPs | Digital inspections, scheduled maintenance, calibrations. |
| 8.5.2 | Hazard analysis | HACCP templates per plant type (bakery, dairy, meat). |
| 8.5.4 | Hazard control plan (HACCP) | AI-configured CCPs, sub-second PLC monitoring. |
| 8.6 | Plan update | Plan changes logged with version and signature. |
| 8.7 | Monitoring and measurement control | Auditable instrument calibration per asset. |
| 8.9 | Non-conformity control | Deviation traceability + corrective action + effectiveness verification. |
| 9.1 | Monitoring, measurement, analysis | Plant/shift/SKU dashboards exportable. |
| 9.2 | Internal audit | Full event trail exportable to PDF/CSV. |

Comparison: software-only vs Rela AI for FSSC 22000
| Capability | Software-only HACCP (e.g. SafetyChain) | Rela AI |
|---|---|---|
| Real-time HACCP | Manual forms, end of shift | Sub-second from PLC |
| Food loss / OEE | Not native | Native, PLC reading |
| Equipment maintenance | Manual inspections | Predictive + preventive logged |
| Culture — operator visibility | End-of-shift QC email | Real-time WhatsApp, operator language |
| Lot traceability | Per form / batch record | Immutable, linked to recipes and PLC reads |
How to prepare for FSSC 22000 v6
- Inventory new v6 clauses vs your current v5 implementation.
- Configure CCPs in Rela AI aligned to the QC-signed HACCP plan.
- Enable real-time OEE — required for food loss baseline.
- Document incident communication plan — Rela AI provides the tool, QC signs the plan.
- Link maintenance to the PRP plan — preventive WOs tied to equipment.
- Pre-audit simulation — export the full report and review with internal auditor.
Honest limitations
- Rela AI does not certify. FSSC 22000 certification is granted by an accredited Certification Body.
- Rela AI does not sign the HACCP plan. The human QC signs.
- Rela AI is a monitoring and traceability tool. Management and decisions remain human, documented in Rela.
